Suffer The Little Children Essays - Rother, , Term Papers
Suffer The Little Children Suffer the Little Children, by Stephen King, is an interesting story that lives up to the expectations of all his other legendary works. His plot is twisted and contains many ironic happenings. The characters are divided into good and evil, but one is confused if the evil is real or imaginary. The setting sounds as if it is based on an actual place. The story, as a whole, keeps the reader anticipated and on the edge of his seat. The setting is placed at an elementary school, where the kids attend class from eight to three, in a single room, with the same teacher all day. The teacher, Miss Sidley, is a small women that has been teaching a long time. She wears a brace due to the pains in her back, and thick glasses to view all of her pupils. Even though Miss Sidley is really petite and frail looking, she has her students scared of her, and they do not dare to try and pull anything over on her. The kids know not to chew gum, whisper, pass notes, or read, because even though Miss Sidley has her back turned, she catches them everytime. They feel as if she is God, because she knows everything at once. The story begins in a regular classroom, with Miss Sidley writing spelling words on the blackboard. She calls on certain kids to use the new word in a sentence. She is very polite about it, but the kids still tremble. Then, she comes to Robert, a boy in the front row. She asks him to use the word tomorrow in a sentence. Robert answered, ?Tomorrow a bad thing will happen.? Then he wrinkled his nose and smiled slyly. Miss Sidley did not say anything, but this bothered her greatly. She could hardly sleep that night and knew something was wrong with Robert. Robert and a few of the other kids kept making strange smirks and looking at Miss Sidley weird. The reader can now tell something is wrong with the picture and the plot starts to thicken. He is anticipating what is exactly going on. The story is now inclining towards its major climax. Miss Sidley starts seeing more and more strange things, but tries to hide the matter. This is the last thing she wants, because she has been a strict teacher for years and she doesn't want the rest of the faculty to think she is getting to old and loosing her mind. She decides to keep Robert after school, so she can find out what the deal is. Robert just maintained an evil smirk after class and said that there were eleven of them in the school. Miss Sidley kept warning him with different consequences, but his smile kept getting bigger and bigger. Robert then says, ?Do you want to see me change, Miss Sidley and continues with, ?It will be just like Show and Tell, won't it , Miss Sidley? Robert-the other Robert-he liked Show and Tell. He's still hiding way down in my head.? The climax has almost peaked now. The reader now knows that somebody took control of Robert's body; but what is it? Robert, what seems like finally to the reader, changes his face into an evil demon and starts to chuckle loudly. Of course this frightens Miss Sidley, sending her straight out of the room. Miss Sidley did not return for about a month, saying she did not feel herself lately. Robert changing his face is the climax of the story, because this is when the reader finds out what he has been questioning throughout the whole story. After this major climax the story starts declining again, but then reaches another high point. When Miss Sidley returned to her class a month later, she tried to ignore the matter, until she couldn't take it anymore. One afternoon she brought a handgun to school and told the class they were to have a test, one by one, in the mimeograph room. This room was soundproof and at the end of the hall. Robert was assigned first and she took him to the room. He started to change his face again and she shot him. Then, one by one she shot each kid, until Mrs. Crossen came to get paper and saw the pile of bodies. Miss Sidley was begging the child to change their face, but the child just cried. Miss Sidley bringing

Correlation Analysis in Sociological Research
Correlation Analysis in Sociological Research Correlation is a term that refers to the strength of a relationship between two variables where a strong, or high, correlation means that two or more variables have a strong relationship with each other while a weak or low correlation means that the variables are hardly related. Correlation analysis is the process of studying the strength of that relationship with available statistical data. Sociologists can use statistical software like SPSS to determine whether a relationship between two variables is present, and how strong it might be, and the statistical process will produce a correlation coefficient that tells you this information. The most widely used type ofà correlation coefficientà is the Pearson r. This analysis assumes that the two variables being analyzed are measured on at leastà interval scales, meaning they are measured on a range of increasing value. The coefficient is calculated by taking theà covarianceà of the two variables and dividing it by the product of theirà standard deviations. Understanding the Strength of Correlation Analysis Correlation coefficients can range from -1.00 to 1.00 where a value of -1.00 represents a perfect negative correlation, which means that as the value of one variable increases, the other decreases while a value of 1.00 represents a perfect positive relationship, meaning that as one variable increases in value, so does the other. Values like these signal a perfectly linear relationship between the two variables, so that if you plot the results on a graph it would make a straight line, but a value of 0.00 means that there is no relationship between the variables being tested and would be graphed as separate lines entirely. Take for example the case of the relationship between education and income, which is demonstrated in the accompanying image. This shows that the more education one has, the more money they will earn in their job. Put another way, these data show that education and income are correlatedà and that there is a strong positive correlation between the two- as education rises, so too does income, and the same kind of correlation relationship is found between education and wealth as well. The Utility of Statistical Correlation Analyses Statistical analyses like these are useful because they can show us how different trends or patterns within society might be connected, like unemployment and crime, for example; and they can shed light on how experiences and social characteristics shape what happens in a persons life. Correlation analysis lets us say with confidence that a relationship does or does not exist between two different patterns or variables, which allows us to predict the probability of an outcome among the population studied. A recent study of marriage and education found a strong negative correlation between the levelà of education and the divorce rate. Data from the National Survey of Family Growth show thatà as education level increases among women, the divorce rate for first marriages decreases. Its important to keep in mind, though, that correlation is not the same as causation, so while there exists a strong correlation between education and divorce rate, that does not necessarily mean the decrease in divorce among women is caused by the amount of education received.

Black Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Black - Essay Example The leaders of this organization enjoin to its members following of a strict Islamic code of behavior, which covers such issues as interpersonal relations, dress, and diet (Black Muslims, 1). The origins of Black Muslims are found in two black self-improvement movements initiated before the World War I. One of these organizations was the Moorish Science Temple of America, which was founded by Prophet Drew Ali in 1913. Soon after death of Ali in 1929, the movement has been headed by Wallace D. Fard, who has founded a mosque in Detroit in 1930 and thus has set a beginning of the Nation of Islam (Black Muslims, 1). Wallace Fard was also known as Master Farad Muhammad, and called the Great Mahdi, Allah, or God by Black Muslims (Black Muslims, 1). Fard claimed that he was a member of the Quarish tribe to which Prophet Muhammed belonged and called himself ââ¬Å"Asiatic Black manâ⬠(Fishman, Eric, and Soage, 60). The second movement which has set the origin of the Black Muslims, was the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) founded by Marcus Garvey in 1914(Black Muslims, 1). Marcus Garvey was a black nationalist born in St. Annââ¬â¢s Bay, Jamaica (Mugleston, n.p.). UNIA for Garvey was an instrument for racial advancement for the rest of his life (Mugleston, n.p.). The slogan of the movement was ââ¬Å"One Aim, One God, One Destinyâ⬠, and appealed to the black American soldiers who came back after serving abroad during WWI to the racist society (Mugleston, n.p.). Adherents to Non Christianity were a group of people, some of whom have made their contribution to the birth of Black Islam. By the mid of 1970s, the total number of Non-Christian Religious Adherents in the US was almost 10% of the total population ââ¬â 20,789,000 people. Black Muslims were a subcategory of this group and comprised 200,000 people in the mid of 1970s (Infoplease.com, n.p.). The share of Black Muslims among the

Globalization Essays -- Business International Globalization
Globalization is necessary in the world. Different theories on the concept of globalization provide distinct reasons on the need for globalization. The worldââ¬â¢s advancements and technology help drive the need for globalization. Communities and organizations alike are affected by globalization, and smaller countries benefit from the generosity of larger participants in the worldââ¬â¢s market. Globalization, in the business sense, is to make a product or service available in the global market. Any investment that is across national borders is also part of globalization. Many companies in the United States (US) have taken their product, service, or investment opportunities to other countries. This affects the global economy. Just as the economy of the US affects many Americans, the global economy affects the citizens of the world. As any company that does affects the global economy, positive or negative affects may be realized. Many different theories support the concept of globalization. Tariffs are levied on a country-to-country basis. Tariffs are duties, also known as taxes, which each country puts on the imports and exports of that country. The government of the country in question wages a tariff. The World Trade Organization (WTO) oversees all countries. Absolute advantage supports the concept of globalization, because this concept ensures that one country can produce a product better and more efficient than another country. By importing or exporting this product or good, the countries that use this product can easily trade other products or goods. This helps countries produce the things to make them more efficient. Comparative advantage happens when the opportunity cost of producing goods differs from country to country, all... ...upport the reasoning behind the need globalization. Many countries benefit from the use of products and services from other countries. In turn, the countries all benefit from each other. The markets will dictate what the driving forces are, but for now, the largest driving force in the worldââ¬â¢s economy today is technology. The effects of globalization can be seen in many different organizations and even communities across the US. Regional trading blocs help countries that would normally not be a participant in the world market. Globalization is will only make this worldââ¬â¢s economy stronger.
